Library Circulation Assistant (Temporary Part-time Contract Position)

Job Title: Circulation Assistant  

 

Position: Part-time 20-25 hours/week, weekend and evening work required. This is a temporary 12-week position. 

Wage: $23.42 - $27.11/hour  

Role Description 

This is a temporary part-time contract position, for 12 weeks, to take place over the Summer Season 2026. The Circulation Assistant will work 20-25 hours a week in 5-hour shifts Tuesday – Saturday. This may include some evenings (2:00 pm – 7:00 pm). The Circulation Assistant will never work alone in the library.  

 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Checking in/out library materials, renewing materials, etc.  

  • Responds to inquiries by phone, electronically, or in person  

  • Helps patrons print, scan, and fax documents 

  • Provides reader advisory (book recommendations) 

  • Provides patrons with assistance with basic technology (e.g. connecting to the library’s WiFi, downloading eBooks, printing)  

  • Processes transactions with cash or Interac payments  

  • Shelving/filing books and other material 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience/Education in related field an asset 

  • Vulnerable sector check required 

  • First Aid Training an asset 

 

Skills 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Keen attention to detail 

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office 

  • Knowledge of books and love of reading
